| After about a month, I find myself in Amarillo TX, about an 1800 mile bike ride from my starting point of Jacksonville FL - and about another 1800 miles from my destination: San Francisco CA. It's so, so beautiful out here... Finally sort of getting used to riding 85+ miles a day on my bicycle... soon to add mountains! Today was about a 90 mile ride from Memphis TX. Anyway, go look at our website: http://www.bikeandbuild.org/ and look for the journal, photos, etc. from the Southern Route (you can also donate online! everyone's raised their $4,000, but we're still collecting donations). Also, call me - you know my phone number. Preferably between (my) hours of 4 and 8 pm, because that's the time I'm least likely to either be on a bike or sleeping. I'm in central time right now, so that's between 5 and 9 for you east coasters; in about 3 days when I hit New Mexico and a new time zone, that'll be between your 6 and 10. Hope everyone's doing well! (also: I've only had one flat from going over half the country. This = awesome. Hopefully I can keep this up...) | | |
| I have a major!
Course 12 (Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences), probably with a concentration in the Atmospheres and Oceans stuff.
Should be pretty awesome

| I meant to mention this awhile ago, but... This summer, I'm going to be spending nine weeks bicycling across the country in support of affordable housing (think Habitat for Humanity and other such organizations) with an organization called Bike and Build. We will be starting in Jacksonville, FL on June 12, spending June 25 through June 30 in New Orleans helping to build homes, and arriving in San Francisco, CA on August 16.
(The full schedule can be viewed here. For example, I will be in San Ysidro NM on the day that the new Harry Potter book comes out.)I am so, so incredibly excited about this. I also need to collect a certain amount ($4,000) in donations, so if any of you have parents who are biking enthusiasts, are sympathetic to the affordable housing cause, or just feel like helping me, donations (of any quantity) would be very, very appreciated. If anyone wants more information, read this (download, word file); it also contains my contact information. You can get in touch with me and I can easily mail you the pamphlet and pre-addressed envelope referrred to in the letter. Anyway, thank you very much!
And sometime I'll make a proper whine-about-how-much-work-college-is post, but right now I need to get back to editing and scripting a radio piece. -M | | |
| To everyone I did see: nice to see you, and I'll miss you until I pop by again in May!
To everyone I didn't see: I'm attacking you in May! Seriously
I'm hopping on a 6:30 flight to Florida tomorrow morning, staying there until the 10th with crew (this isn't vacation in Florida; it's having-my-ass-kicked-into-shape in Florida), and then I'm back to Boston for IAP, and then another semester of MIT. Soo... here goes another 5 months of not being at home! (...or maybe, I'm almost back home again?)
Happy New Year!
